Agreed. Also seeing a trend of companies starting off with only paid options immediately. It cuts off the lowest level of consumer - the ones that take up the most customer support time with the least revenue provided.

People who do want to try a product end up being more serious. They get a free trial or simply have to pay for a month’s subscription to try it. This is a forcing function that filters out the low-end customers who don’t have a strong need for the product.
