Apple has a concept called the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI). On a particular project, that person is solely held accountable for the project’s success (or failure). The DRI can be anyone from an executive to a manager to an individual contributor.
Increases individual ownership. When individuals feel a sense of ownership, they perform better (at least accurate, in my experience).
Largely true for commercial entities but public sector a few people want to take ownership and this is from an experience working on both sides of the fence (commercial and public sectors). Taking ownership means a risk of failure. People rather blame someone than take ownership and that’s why large reliance on consultants so they can be blamed. No one gets fired by hiring IBM, BCG, Booz Allen, Deloitte, EY, etc.
