OpenAI is no stranger to contrarian strategies: complex financial structures, research-heavy, product behind login-wall, solution in search of a problem.

It sure does seem that way, after working with these tools nonstop for about a year, and seeing how much more productive I can be as a result, and how much more I can learn about the world.

I agree with the "good times" principle, but feel like it might be more like 5 years as time between paradigms inevitably gets shorter and shorter.
Realizing their profits without the use of ads, I don’t think they will “ski that piste” any time soon. Google has shown that ads aren’t everything. Same goes for Twitter/X. What you want is create consumer value; the type of value that is worth investing in, something that makes the money worth your while. I think Altman is on a mission to create true consumer value through highly creative output and accessibility.
